Il y avait une volont\u00e9 profonde de fournir des informations sur le r\u00e9gime frontalier de la RDA, sur ce site unique de confrontation des blocs, ainsi qu\u2019un besoin de d\u00e9peindre la vie et la souffrance de la population \u00e0 l\u2019ancienne fronti\u00e8re. Le Camp am\u00e9ricain n\u2019\u00e9tait pas adapt\u00e9 pour cela. Pour une repr\u00e9sentation r\u00e9aliste et objective de la situation \u00e0 l\u2019est de la fronti\u00e8re int\u00e9rieure allemande, mais qui soit aussi intelligible pour les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations futures, la Maison \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re a finalement \u00e9t\u00e9 construite. Deux associations commanditaires, du c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la Hesse et de la Thuringe, avaient fait campagne avec succ\u00e8s pour que le nouveau b\u00e2timent, \u00e9rig\u00e9 en 2003, soit autoris\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre construit directement sur l\u2019ancien chemin de ronde. Ainsi, entre le poste d\u2019observation am\u00e9ricain de la Hesse, class\u00e9 monument historique, et la Maison \u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re en Thuringe, les visiteurs pouvaient faire une visite impressionnante de l\u2019ensemble du site de 100\u00a0000 m\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s du m\u00e9morial, un site qui repr\u00e9sente l\u2019\u00e9volution historique de la fronti\u00e8re int\u00e9rieure allemande dans sa dimension politique mondiale.
